What was Springheeled Jack? Alien,creature,paranormal,or demented genius?

Spring heeled Jack is a 175 year old English folk legend who was said to attack people at night and had glowing red eyes,spouted blue flames,had clawlike hands, and was able to leap incredible heights.He was never caught or identity discovered.
