How do you pay for university? And how much?

I mean how do you pay as in is it after you finish or before or when you Are in uni? Im fr england and i want to go to america for uni does anyone have any idea how much it will be? I know it will be expensive though lol thank youu! Ohh and i wont be going for another 4/5 years if that makes a difference.
