Need some help on writing about surgery?

Hey everyone. I'm a 14 year-old teenage writer and I'm currently writing a story that involves a girl getting in a car crash. She hurts her hips and has trouble breathing. I want to include her having to have surgery so do you think she'd have to have surgery on her hips? If so (if it's actually possible to have surgery on your hips), what kind of technique would be used and what would it do, how long would it take her to recover from it, and any information about the surgery I could include in the story?
