Moen slip on tub spout leaks alot of water on the wall side when shower diverter is pulled?

Once I pulled it off I did notice the o-ring had slipped off now I am not sure where is goes, the only place I can see it going is where the set screw tightens on the pipe but it still leaks alot of water. Any help appreciated
